This is a special bulletin from the New Health Order team to recognize the closing of the first 25 years of the 21st century.
The holidays offer a perfect time to re-establish old friendships and re-connect again with the families and friends we care about.
Because we are "social beings" connections are good, not only for the soul, but are like a ray of sunshine for continued health and well-being. Social scientists who study the effect of human social connections, have evidence that as we age, human connectivity becomes much more important to one's mental and physical health, than just about anything else.
Those with high levels of connectivity are winning at life. This social activity actually has proven to translate into a longer disability-free health-span for all.
JAPAN LEADS IN CONNECTION
Most everyone wants a long and disability free life. The Japanese population has set the world record in human longevity that relies heavily on social connectivity. One of the main reasons behind this social order is word Ikigai. This word is made up of two Japanese words: iki means alive and gai means worth. Together, ikigai means a long, peaceful, and meaningful life. When combined with the Japanese word moai, which means "close knit group", the result provides a population that has learned to rely and trust each other throughout life.
LIFTING YOUR HOLIDAY SPIRITS
First thing in the morning, step outside into the fresh air and let the sunshine hit your face. This habit re-sets your circadian clock and body rhythms. You'll find that you have more energy throughout the day.
Kick start your body by taking a 15 minute walk. Exercise is the number one elixir for overall health.
Fine tune your senses. Bring some fresh flowers into your life. Scented candles, or incense, will lighten up your mood.
Visit a sick or elderly friend. Giving your personal time to help others provides a psychological lift and reinforces everyone's physical health as well.
Eat lightly. The holidays are full of high calorie treats. Remember, a sugar high is usually followed by an energy low.
Get six, or seven hours deep sleep. This is natures way to refresh a stressed-out brain and retain your mental sharpness for tomorrow.
Take a break from stress. Yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation, all help our psychological well being, so we can have a fresh start again.
Don’t forget we are on the web
Happy Holidays from Arlene and Roger, your New Health Order team !
